Sights and Places

Rijksmuseum Amsterdam
The Rijksmuseum (National Museum), set in its historic building, is the largest museum in the Netherlands. The museum is the largest in the size of its collections, its building, the budget and the number of staff employed.

Each year, more than a million people visit the Rijksmuseum. The museum employs around 400 people, including 45 curators who are specialised in all areas.

The Rijksmuseum is internationally renowned for its exhibitions and publications and not only are these high quality products, but are also areas in which the museum extends the boundaries of scholarship and encourages new insights.

Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam
The Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam is temporarily located on the Oosterdokskade next to Central Station. In this neighbourhood where the old and new city meet, it occupies a part of the Post CS building. Stedelijk Museum CS (SMCS) offers a varied exhibition programme of art, film, photography, video and design , primarily focusing on contemporary developments from after 1968. Partly because of the climatic conditions in the building, the classic modern works from our collection (Chagall, Picasso and others) will not be on display here. The collection will be on show again in the renovated and extended Stedelijk Museum on the Museumplein expected to reopen August 2008.

Amsterdam canal cruises
The canal boats are a popular way to explore Amsterdam from the water. Boat tours might be also a quick sight-seeing solution for those who hurry to see the most of the city in an hour. There are several companies offering the boats which mostly fit about 40 persons and provide a guided tour in many foreign languages. The canal boats run from many spots in the town like Rokin, Anna Frank house, Leidseplein, Heineken Brewery, and many boats run as often as every 30 minutes.

Royal Palace
The Royal Palace is located on the Dam in Amsterdam. It is not Queen Beatrix’s place of residence but she occasionally receives important guests there. Then the red carpet is rolled out and the Dutch flag flies above the Palace. When the important guests have departed, then everyone can take a glimpse of the Palace.
